PAS 2050 A British GHG Life Cycle Standard

PAS 2050 is a publically available standard developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to specify requirements for assessing the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) of goods and services.  While greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are often viewed at global, national, corporate or organizational levels, emissions can arise from within business and through supply chains.

GHG Organizational Boundaries

 In developing the GHG Boundaries for your organization, you must identify GHG sources (physical units or processes that release GHG into the atmosphere), and sinks (physical units or processes that remove GHG from the atmosphere).  Sources and sinks can come from one facility or a number of facilities.   Generally, where more than one facility is involved, the organization must apportion the GHG emissions based on; either the amount of financial control each facility has, or by the actual portion of emissions generated by each facility.  The organization may be able to use other methods where specified by a specific GHG program.

ISO 14064 – The Greenhouse Gas (GHG) standard

 ISO 14064 is a three part standard that details organization level green house gas ( GHG )standards.  ISO 14064-1 is the “Specification with guidance at the organization level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals.”  ISO 14064-2 is the “Specification with guidance at the project level for quantification, monitoring and reporting of greenhouse gas emission reduction and removal enhancements.”  ISO 14064-3 is the Specification with guidance for the validation and verification of greenhouse gas assertions.”
